MOV is a container
The .mov extension identifies a QuickTime container, not one guaranteed codec. A phone export may carry H.264/AAC while an editing master may use a high-bitrate production codec.
The internal streams determine whether fast repackaging is possible and how much browser work is required.
How the paths differ
Standard output first tests compatible stream copy and uses an H.264/AAC fallback when required. Master output encodes a 720p H.264/AAC rendition under the 720p directory.
A 4K editing source therefore needs much more processing than an already-compatible 720p phone recording.
- Repackaging changes the container without encoding every frame
- Transcoding decodes and encodes the streams
- Output cannot recover detail missing from the source
Prepare a large camera file
Trim unused footage before browser conversion and export only the required range. This reduces source memory, processing time, segments, and ZIP size.
Use a recent desktop browser, connect to power, close memory-heavy applications, and try a short representative sample when the codec is unknown.
- Keep a separate original
- Avoid an unstable removable drive
- Do not close or reload the conversion tab
Inspect the result
Check motion-heavy scenes and audio synchronization, seek across several segment boundaries, and play through the ending.
After upload, test the public playlist with the folder hierarchy that came from the ZIP.
